Mark Webber was quickest for Red Bull in the second Friday practice session for the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.

After Fernando Alonso had led the way this morning, Ferrari was once again the pacesetter for much of the session.

Felipe Massa was quickest for a lengthy spell early on, before his team-mate Alonso produced a 1m31.879s just after the halfway mark.

But his time on top only last a few minutes before Webber (Red Bull) lapped in 1m31.770s. He then cooled his tyres for a while before putting in a 1m31.711s just before the one-hour mark, which kept him ahead for the rest of the day.

Alonso, who also had a quick visit to the gravel and a sideways moment over the hairpin kerbs dodging Michael Schumacher's Mercedes, remained second, ahead of the second Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel, and Massa.

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh believes that Jenson Button's amazing triumph in the Canadian Grand Prix was not just the Briton's best ever win - he thinks it one of the greatest victories in the history of the sport.

Button came through two crashes - one with team-mate Lewis Hamilton and one with Fernando Alonso – a drive-through penalty, and five further pitstops to grab the lead on the final lap of the race from Sebastian Vettel. Whitmarsh was amazed with the performance and thinks considering Button had dropped to the back of the field at one point of the event, his comeback should go down as one of the finest ever F1 performances.

Nigel Mansell is to race against F1 aces Damon Hill, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button - at the age of 57. The 1992 world champion will drive a Lotus against his younger rivals at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month. It will be the first time Britain's last four F1 world champs have raced together at Goodwood. Organiser Lord March said: "We're spoiled to have them with us - the fans are in for a real treat."

Former world champion Damon Hill is to step down as President of the British Racing Drivers' Club, after five years in the role.

Having played a key part in helping secure the long-term future of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the track which is owned by the BRDC, Hill believes it is now time to step aside so he can focus more on his personal interests.

He will officially relinquish his position at the club's Annual General Meeting on August 25
